About This Course

Known for their edits in the dance music world, Robin from K&K gives us a demonstration on how he creates edits, looking at selecting the track you want to edit, and then diving into the production processes and sampling.

You will learn:

Lessons: 

1. Introduction: 

Robin explains how he decides what track to edit, once that is done, he finds various versions of the track and pitches it down to the BPM he would like to work in.

2. Sampling with the Drum Rack:

You can sample original parts from the track using Drum Rack, selecting the audio section you want can then be triggered via MIDI. Robin then starts building a drum groove. 

3. Building Basslines: 

Using simpler to sample an audio file, Robin shows us his techniques when it comes to writing basslines.

4. Percussions: 

Robin creates percussion using the drum rack and playing with MIDI.

5. Vocal Chops: 

Finding chops from the original track to add atmosphere and sonic movement. Robin fits the vocal from the original into his new groove.

6. Final Touches: 

With all the parts in place, Robin starts to think about the arrangement, the build up and the track as a whole. He adds a snare pattern to liven the drum group.

K & K are a house DJ/Production duo based in Kent UK. - Robin & Danny have spent the best part of 2 decades DJing together under different guises, gracing the decks from Ministry of Sound London to Space Ibiza and many venues in between. In 2013 having dabbled with production over the years they started to create their own music and the duo K & K were born. Since this day their music has graced the USBs of many household names and gained radio plays on Radio 1, Kiss FM and Rinse.

How to Make Elements of Your Track 'Pop Out' W/ Johan SIn this course Johan S deconstructs his track with Oliver Knight ‘The Blues’. He will show us how ‘The Blues’ is constructed with a deep dive on certain details like subtle overdubs and production techniques that make elements in a track “pop out” to add energy. In this course Alex explains the key elements to making a good sample pack, building loops, making one-shots, making multi samples, mixdown & quality controls and ways to add value and interest to our sample packs. How to Get The Best From Vocals w/ Enyon In this course, Enyon teaches us the best ways to get the most out of vocalsits and their vocals by showing us the importance of finding the right vocalist, the initial idea for the song, and even how it is recorded. He explains how each one of these stages have a crucial part in the final product. You will learn: Preparation with a track and singer (bed track, discussion over lyrical content - verse, chorus) Recording Vocals - achieving a relaxed performance. Working with a Vocalist In this lesson Enyon explains his tips and tricks for working with a vocalist. He mentions that you should always record a vocalist even when they are warming up. As many vocalists may get shy when recording, sometimes the best part of the session is their warmup as they are at their most comfort. 5. Vocal Editing Enyon shows us how to edit vocal recordings by rendering them and pitching them. He explains to not stress over some bad pitches as that is normal and can always be fixed in this stage. He then shows us how he would EQ and compress the vocals to make them fit into the mix. 6. The Finished Mix In this lesson, Enyon takes the processed vocals that he is happy with and groups the majority of them together to bring them to life in the mix.
