About This Course
Known for their edits in the dance music world, Robin from K&K gives us a demonstration on how he creates edits, looking at selecting the track you want to edit, and then diving into the production processes and sampling.
You will learn:
- Sampling audio with the drum rack
- Writing basslines
- Converting audio to MIDI
- Writing percussion lines
- Chopping vocals
- Arrangement
Lessons:
1. Introduction:
Robin explains how he decides what track to edit, once that is done, he finds various versions of the track and pitches it down to the BPM he would like to work in.
2. Sampling with the Drum Rack:
You can sample original parts from the track using Drum Rack, selecting the audio section you want can then be triggered via MIDI. Robin then starts building a drum groove.
3. Building Basslines:
Using simpler to sample an audio file, Robin shows us his techniques when it comes to writing basslines.
4. Percussions:
Robin creates percussion using the drum rack and playing with MIDI.
5. Vocal Chops:
Finding chops from the original track to add atmosphere and sonic movement. Robin fits the vocal from the original into his new groove.
6. Final Touches:
With all the parts in place, Robin starts to think about the arrangement, the build up and the track as a whole. He adds a snare pattern to liven the drum group.
7. Live Q&A:
Robin answers questions on using the drum rack as a sampler, mastering and more.

K & K are a house DJ/Production duo based in Kent UK. - Robin & Danny have spent the best part of 2 decades DJing together under different guises, gracing the decks from Ministry of Sound London to Space Ibiza and many venues in between. In 2013 having dabbled with production over the years they started to create their own music and the duo K & K were born. Since this day their music has graced the USBs of many household names and gained radio plays on Radio 1, Kiss FM and Rinse.
