Distortion is a vital tool for electronic music, using it well can make instruments stand out and ‘thicken’ them up. In this workshop, Glimpse dives into using distortion on drums, vocals and setting instruments up in the mix.
You will learn:

Lessons:
1. Distortion in Drums
Looking at adding distortion to hats, claps and shakers too make them stand out in the mix. Glimpse talks about treating kick drums
1. Master EQ
Glimpse shows us what a common dance music EQ would look like and touches on using noise in the mix.
3. Vocals
Looking at a recorded vocal, Glimpse explains how he would treat it and fit it into the mix.
4. Giving Sounds Presence
How to make certain sounds shine in the mix, Glimpse shares a tip on putting a hat on top of the kick and other techniques to improve your mix. He then answers a question on mastering chains.
5. Creating space in the mix
Choosing the sounds you use is crucial to getting a well mixed track. Glimpse shares tips on panning pads, sidechaining and more.
6. Live Q&A
- Glimpse looks at interest ways to use audio exciters, talks about his favourite plugins and more.
- He then gives a demonstration on automating exciter parameters.
- Using Ozone Exciter and then looks into a plugin called Portal

Glimpse
Over the last decade, Glimpse has established himself as one of the UK’s most versatile, imaginative and talented producers.From his early career Glimpse has demonstrated his talent and diversified skills through his many ventures as producer.
From his successful Techno ‘Black Series’ on Glimpse recordings to the groove-laden techno of ‘Drifting’ on Planet E. In 2010 we also saw him fully pursue his deep organic take on house with his Crosstown Rebels singles and album. This musical range without a doubt has gained him the respect of his peers and has led up to two successive nominations in DJ Magazine’s prestigious ‘Best British Producer’ category.
Most recently Glimpse has become most well known for being one half of Techno duo Dense & Pika with Hypercolour label boss, Alex Jones. They have releases on Drumcode, Armada, Hotflush Turbo recordings and NowNow. They also have their own label, Kneaded Pains which they have recently released their debut album, “Colour Burn”.
