1. Drum Programming and Processing
Tommy gets stuck in immediately and starts off by showing us his drum programming process to create that groovy ‘minimal’ sound. He shows you how to group your elements into different drum busses, layer samples to create impact, as well how to process drum sounds and loops for added texture.
2. Writing Riffs and Motifs.
Moving on to his musical elements - Tommy covers his sampling process when creating pads, moving on to how he brings presence and warmth to his bass. He then goes over any additional melodic elements, such as processing vocal samples and creating acid-style arpeggios.
3. The Drum Buss
Finally, Tommy goes through his drum buss on FL Studio and the processing he uses - from multiband saturation to overdrive, compression and limiting.
4. Live Q&A
- Do you EQ away the frequencies in the kick that are in the bass?
- What is a limiter and do you put it on every channel?
- How do you get your snare sound?
