About This Course

An accomplished mastering engineer and an apple listed master provider, Richard goes in depth with his mastering chain and highlights important processes and issues to tackle. 

Production libraries can be a good source of income for music producers,Production music can be used for a variety of media applications; Podcasts, Games, Radio Ads, Jingles, Sound FX, Film Scores and many more. Annie discusses the applications and how you can make money from them.

Lessons:  

1. Looking at The Pre Master 

The finished product should be almost ready in the mixdown stages, a mastering engineers job is to make the sound shine more and balanced across all listening devices, not to fix mixing mistakes. 

2. Plugin Selection & Loudness 

 Sonarworks room correction software can be used to sort out any issues you may encounter in the room. Richard goes through his go-to plugins for mastering and discusses the trivial loudness wars topic.

3. Bass 

Bass takes up the most space in the mix, Richard discusses what you can do to shape the sound and discusses other mix issues. 

4. Stereo Width & Codes

Making small increments to every plug-in in the chain, Richard explains how to apply stereo width into your master while discussing the various codecs to consider when exporting a master. 

5. Track Listening & Loudness 

Keep your bass in mono. 

6. MID/SIDE EQ & Imaging 

An essential tool for any master, it allows you to mix frequencies in the centre of the mix or the sides of the mix. Richard does this using Logics EQ and Ozone 9. 

7. Smooth Tops 

One of the biggest issues is not having your room give you accurate feedback on what you are listening to, as well as your hearing. Hearing damage starts with high frequencies usually so please wear ear protection in loud environments. 

8. Export Formats & Mastering Engineers 

The standard way of delivering masters for all platforms is 16Bit 44.1KHZ WAV. Richard advises against using automatic mastering platforms as it will never be the same as having a human do it.

In this course he deconstructs two tracks; first his original ‘Lessons in Dub’; Then his remix of the track. You will learn: How to prepare a remix with good sound quality The steps to approach a remix How to deconstruct a track Lessons: 1. Introduction Saytek discusses his label Cubism Records, through this label he managed to release his album Machine Jams, which was well received by Carl Cox who played 8 of the tracks on his Space Ibiza closing party. 2. Drum Group Using solely Ableton Live 10 effects and processing functions, Saytek breaks down the drum group he created to make this track. He uses processes such as Bit Reduction and Drum Buss to fatten up the group. 3. Bass & Stabs Looking at the sub-bass layer that Saytek runs through a guitar amp. He will show us how ‘The Blues’ is constructed with a deep dive on certain details like subtle overdubs and production techniques that make elements in a track “pop out” to add energy. Drums In this lesson, Johan shows us a preview of his and Oliver Knight's track “The Blues”. He then goes into detail on how the drums were processed for this track. He shows us the different VST plugins used such as Alivert 7, Fabfilter EQ3, TDR Nova, etc. Throughout this lesson, Johan adds how he and Oliver would go abouts their collaboration on the track. 3. Bass In this lesson Johan explains the importance of making the bass & kick sounds good together. He composes for a TV & Film music library and contributes monthly to MusicTech Magazine Online. In this course Alex explains the key elements to making a good sample pack, building loops, making one-shots, making multi samples, mixdown & quality controls and ways to add value and interest to our sample packs. By the end of this course you will have all the necessary tools to earn money and enter Mixmasters sample pack competition. How to Get The Best From Vocals w/ Enyon In this course, Enyon teaches us the best ways to get the most out of vocalsits and their vocals by showing us the importance of finding the right vocalist, the initial idea for the song, and even how it is recorded. He explains how each one of these stages have a crucial part in the final product. You will learn: Preparation with a track and singer (bed track, discussion over lyrical content - verse, chorus) Recording Vocals - achieving a relaxed performance. He then explains his tips and tricks for when you first meet the vocalist for a recording session; He mentions that you should always make the vocalist feel comfortable and record their vocals as dry as possible. 4. Working with a Vocalist In this lesson Enyon explains his tips and tricks for working with a vocalist. He mentions that you should always record a vocalist even when they are warming up. As many vocalists may get shy when recording, sometimes the best part of the session is their warmup as they are at their most comfort. 5. Vocal Editing Enyon shows us how to edit vocal recordings by rendering them and pitching them. He explains to not stress over some bad pitches as that is normal and can always be fixed in this stage. He then shows us how he would EQ and compress the vocals to make them fit into the mix. 6. The Finished Mix In this lesson, Enyon takes the processed vocals that he is happy with and groups the majority of them together to bring them to life in the mix.
